Worry not; the weapons on this list are for aesthetic purposes only. Props and replicas, if you will. However, if you actually wish to find a working, steampunk weapon that could potentially destroy the modern world, maybe you could find it elsewhere after riding a time machine or an interdimensional engine.

In this post, you will find the best weapons you could carry to LARP and cosplay events as well as those that are just perfect addition to your steampunk-themed decor.

Contrary to expectation, steampunk weapons are actually varied. Guns and blades aren’t the only ones that a steampunk character could use. Unlike medieval settings wherein weaponry is limited to not-so-advanced ones while modern warfare also prefers long-range weapons to melee ones, weapons in a steampunk setting don’t have this hurdle.

Steampunk sits comfortably between the antiquated past and the technologically advanced present. Thus, it enjoys the advantage of being able to use both types of weapons as long as it fits the theme and aesthetics.

Guns are among the most common weapons in a steampunk setting. A ranged weapon that throws projectiles towards enemies and targets, it’s also considered to be rather practical since they are easier to carry and use.

There are two types of guns, the normal ones, which actually exist in the real world, and rayguns borrowed from science fiction.

A variant of gun, pistols merit its own category because it’s by far one of the most favorite steampunk weapons out there. Pistols could come in different forms and its usage also vary. Note though that revolvers aren’t often pistols, because, according to ATF, any firearm that doesn’t use revolving cylinders to store its ammo isn’t considered as such.

Pistols, like revolvers, can be powered with metal bullets. Silver bullets are commonly used for monster hunting purposes, making them popular ammo for firearms.

Other types of firearms, rifles, and muskets, are long-barrelled and often used for distance fighting. Commonly utilized in wars and assassinations, these types of firearms are usually preferred for such tasks because they can snipe targets more accurately. Moreover, a rifle or a musket could fire more shots than their shorter cousins, making them a better choice for hunters and warriors overall.

Taking a step back from modern weapons, we have the classic bow and arrow for long-range fighting. They continue to be popular among steampunk enthusiasts and even other types of cosplayers with a post-apocalyptic setting because of the simple fact that they look cool and has that “old-timey” feel. Moreover, they can be created or crafted rather than purchased, if you know how, of course. Archery was also a well-documented activity during the Victorian Era, with both men and women participating. All types of bow and arrow can be used, including longbow, shortbow, and crossbow.

Shifting to melee weapons, blade-type weapons like swords and falchions are immortal-like in their popularity. Used since ancient times, swords can also be found in some steampunk costumes and decor. They are especially applicable to steampunk costumes or themes that lean more on the fantasy and historical side rather than science fiction.

Daggers are also popular steampunk melee weapons, perhaps more so than blades, especially ones that are beautiful and ornate in design. Used by all types of steamsona characters, particularly hunters, explorers, and assassins, daggers are a handy weapon of choice. They are also convenient and practical for cosplayers.

Believe it or not, canes can be wield as weapons as well. Whether you prefer ones with long, thin blades hidden deep inside it, or those that don’t have extra gimmicks except they are made of ultra strong material made for blunt attacks, canes are classy and inconspicous weapons. Also, they are excellent costume pieces for men and women who can both be elegant and can kick ass at the same time.

Speaking of blunt weapons, truncheons and batons are more defensive than offensive. Used by law enforcement officers and the military in the Victorian Period, they are great to work with especially if you want to get as historically accurate as possible with your costume. Also, they are quite easy to use.

Wearables are what you expect them to be: weapons or gadgets you can wear. There are many types of wearable weapons, especially in steampunk where anything you can imagine can be weaponized. From true-to-life stainless steel spiked rings, brass knuckles, and metallic claws to fantastical ones like wrist-mounted crossbows, the possibilities are endless. Just choose which ones you are comfortable with and make sense of your character.

Truly, imagination is the limit when it comes to steampunk weapons. Other, more uncommon types of steampunk weapons could also be used, including ray bazookas (though they are invented later on), axes, spears, boomerangs, war hammers, and more. However, we think it’s best for you to come up with a reason why you are wielding weapons that are unusual for steampunk, in case someone asks.

We scoured the internet for the best steampunk weapons prop you could bring. Be warned though, that although they are made for cosplay and collecting, some weapons still have a sharp point and are still made from metal. Keep them away from kids or pets to avoid someone getting hurt. You must also handle them with care during events to avoid injuries yourself. Here are some of them:
